I use two different very different techniques to create the hollowware; spinning and raising.

Spinning refers to taking a flat sheet of copper or silver in a disc form and reproducing another form over a specific pattern. This pattern is placed on a machine like a wood lathe and with specific tools the disc is formed over the pattern, like a bowl or cup while it is spinning.

Raising is the other technique used when I create pieces that can not be duplicated by spinning. Starting with a flat round piece of silver or copper, the piece is formed by hammering by hand over a variety of steel tools called stakes (patterned anvils if you will). All of the changes in the metal are made with a selection of different hammers and chasing tools that allows me to manipulate and create the many unique shapes and finishes. With patience and a little bit of sweat, the flat metal disc is slowly changed into a functional art form.

I produce some incredible Baby Spoons and Mint Juleps, but don't have photos to show of current offerings at this time. As well, a new run of these are currently in production which may be slightly different than previous designs. Check back soon for the latest of my designs.
